WELCOME TO THE CT RENEGADES!!

Cowboy mounted shooting is one of the nation’s fastest growing equestrian sports. Each contestant in this fast action event is equipped with two .45 caliber single action revolvers, each loaded with five rounds of special blank ammunition. Courses of fire are set in a variety of patterns. The first five balloons are set in a random pattern and the last five balloons are set in a straight line known as a rundown. After the shooter has fired the fifth shot he holsters the empty revolver and proceeds to and turns around a barrel at the far end while drawing his second revolver. He then engages the last five balloons on the rundown. Scoring is based on the elapsed time plus a five second penalty for each missed balloon or knocked over barrel. A course of fire normally takes between 20 and 30 seconds. Look at the photo gallery for some action shots.

BEST OF THE OLD WEST BENEFIT IS HISTORY!

On June 21, 2008 high noon, the biggest band of Wild West characters this side of Hollywood rode into the open field of the Fin Fur and Feather Club on Chewink Rd. ( off Rte 6) in Chaplin Ct. These desperados, ranchers, gunslingers, barmaids, preachers, natives on painted ponies and even the cavalry all be rode to Benefit the Hole In The Wall Gang Camp. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED COLLECT DONATIONS AND CASH!! We are still counting the money from sponsors, spectators and riders.

THANK YOU TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO MADE THE MATCH HAPPEN-set-up and clean-up crews, balloon runners, range masters, riders, scorekeepers, armorers, match director and chuck wagon.

THE CT RENEGADES WENT BACK TO COLLEGE!

A core contingent of Renegades participated in the University of Connecticut's Horse Symposium on the Storrs campus March 29 and 30, 2008.

Information and enthusiasm were supplied at the booth by Jo-An, Judy, Roger, Dy, Mark, Joan, Tim, Carolyn Stearns, Ali, Heather and Gus.

The demos in the arena represented a slice of the horse world- polo, dressage, natural horsemanship, trail riding, etc. and COWBOY MOUNTED SHOOTING.

Roger and Carolyn did a thorough job of exlaining the sport to many who hadn't even heard of cms.

Gus, Judy, Ali, Heather, Jo-An and Joan kept the balloons and ammo ready Sat. Gus, Judy, Jo-An and Joan took care of Sun.

Riders on Sat. included Bruce on Pete, Geoff on Blue, Tim on Daybreak and Ali on Pete. Riders on Sun. included Lisa on Turbo, Tim on Daybreak and Roger on Turbo.

It was a special weekend for UConn Morgan UC Daybreak. He was born at UCONN 22 years ago and came home after 17 years to show his latest achievement (finished shooting horse) to the crowd.

COWBOY MOUNTED SHOOTING CAN TAKE YOU TO PLACES YOU ONLY DREAM ABOUT!

Thirteen Northeasterners trucked down to Virginia to the fabulous Virginia Horse Center in Lexington for the Virginia State Championships. Eleven riders (Cindy and Stan Newton, Cindy and Richard Karp, Lisa and Roger Dinsmore, Joan Davis, Aida Schreiber, Bruce Tolhurst, Vanessa Kuzmitch and Geoff Goodson) and their assistants, Jo-An Boehm and Allison Forsyth (The hardest working groom you’ll ever take along.) enjoyed the state of the art facilities-perfect footing, large arena (300X150), large covered warm-up arena, large bright stalls, wide aisles and trails. The arena building housed venders, food concessions and the banquet room.

Roger Dinsmore and Cindy Newton are standing above the arena.

Judy and Charlie Otto and Lyn and Tommy Richardson ran a first rate match. They even put Jo-An to work helping with timing. Our entry fees included the dinner and bluegrass band Saturday night. This was a great chance to renew old acquaintances and make new friends. I was good to see Earline Sennet, Randy Delano and Ron Differ again. We know Aida will be returning to this shoot next year. She has been charmed by the Southern accents, manners and humor.

The staff at the Horse Center were friendly and helpful.

Lisa and Roger always work hard to dress to represent the Old West. This weekend, they were awarded “Best Dressed”! They each went home with a travel bag full of gifts.

Class winners received cash awards! Cherokee kicked into high gear to help Joan win her class.

Amanda Porter and John Clark rode in this match and put on a clinic Fri. night. Joan, Geoff and Bruce picked up some tips for practices.

Allison filmed the match including two bloopers. Aida and Mystic fell at the barrel. Amanda Porter’s cinch strap broke, the saddle flew up and she went over the horse’s head! Nobody was injured!

Joan and Cherokee thank “Spiderman” (Geoff) for coming to their rescue Sun. morning.
