Benefit Match 2009

This year, we have the opportunity to lighten the burden for a local farm family. Their son, Sam Smyth was seriously hurt in a farm accident. Sam is a 19 year old from Enfield, CT. In Oct. of 2008,his spinal cord was severed in an accident in which a 900 lb. hay bale fell on him. He is a graduate of Suffield Vo-Ag and a student in UCONN's animal science program. He was active in 4H and FFA. He and his family run the Trinity Farm which produces milk and milk products using an organic process. It is one of the few places you can buy milk in bottles!

The June 21st match was cancelled due to rain. Unbelievably, the Aug. date turned into a deluge! One stage was completed before the sky opened up. CMSA allowed the points to count and when all the donations were calculated, the Renegades collected $1000.00 for the Smyth family!

Joan delivered the check (just happened to be Sam's birthday), met many family members and got a tour of the dairy. Sam was just returning in his pick-up truck with mower and trailer from a lawn mowing job. He also works at the dairy. Three generations help get the chocolate, coffee, whole white, 1% and skim milk ready every day. They also produce fresh yogurt daily.
